Baby Beauty +tips for soft curls and tangless brushing.

Baby, Beauty, Lifestyle, Uncategorized

Hey guys, Ariana and I got to chatting about her busy baby curls, and we wanted to share how we stay clear of tangles, plus our favorite products to keep this style tear free and frizz free all day!

To start we have a long 2o minute bath, this is essential for relaxing and plenty of playtime. I don’t know if this is horrible but I  only shampoo if there is food or something in Ariana’s hair. On a normal day I grab whatever conditioner I am using and massage it in. Little girls are not super oily so it works, next we rinse and find a tiny towel and wrap up that mop of brown hair.

Once the towel falls off .04 seconds later we know its time to brush. You must invest in one of these wet brushes, I also use a wet brush and it blew my mind how amazing and easy it is to brush out hair! I found my wet brush at Marshals, but you can find them everywhere.

Next we apply two pumps of TRESemme  nourish rituals, this just helps smooth all those curls and keep her hair calm all day. We have been using this soft oil all year and I’m not sure they sell it any longer but any Argon oil should work.

To finish we part on the side, and throw on a cute headband. I also do the same thing with baby sofia, she loves getting her hair brushed and after I brush her hair I let her have some belly time so her hair won’t dry funky in the back.

Hopefully Arian’s advice and experience can help you next time you go to pull out the brush, we all want to avoid baby crocodile tears.

Lot of love

~Emily, Ariana & Sof.

Baby

I took a few pictures of our little Sofía when she was seven days old, she was a little doll after she finally fell asleep! Sofía still spends most of her time sleeping, snuggling, and nursing. I love how content and happy she is. It definitely helps while I adjust to life with two little people. Happy Friday to all you mommmies! I don’t know about you, but I am really looking forward to the weekend so I can have a tiny chance at sleeping in.

My Birth Story

Baby

Our beautiful daughter Sofia Quinn was born May 27th, at 5:59pm. She was 7.15lbs and 21.5 inches long! My labor started early Wednesday morning, I woke up around 3am when my water broke. It was a slow leak and like every pregnant woman who has their water break, I wasn’t sure if this was the infamous “umm thats only pee”  or hope to goodness my water had really broken. But over the next hour there was no question, it was definitely my water. I was so excited and also relieved that my baby was finally on her way!

May 27th seemed like a great day to welcome my baby girl into the world. My contractions started soon after but they were about 20-25 mins apart and felt more like braxton hicks than anything you would associate with real labor. I laid in bed and tried to rest but there was no going back to sleep for me, how can you when you know you the baby is on her way?! Around 6:30 my daughter Ariana woke up and we snuggled in bed, enjoying the morning and relishing the last morning before she would become a big sister.  We finally got up around seven and got ready for the day, we planned to drop Ariana off  with a friend around 9am. Beto “My husband”  took the day off of work and our first stop was breakfast at the Donut shop, I was still feeling great and in the mood to celebrate little Sofi’s birthday.

After dropping our daughter off we called my midwife to let her know I was in labor, next we stopped at my amazing chiropractor for one last adjustment before the big push. I credit my chiropractor in helping give me an amazing labor and delivery. (although I may have got her table “slightly” wet after getting adjusted.) But to all your pregnant mommies I think having everything aligned and in correct placement makes a huge difference in easing labor and making contractions as productive as possible.  Around 10am my contractions were a little closer at 15 mins apart but they still were not any more painful than a braxton hicks. We decided to go to the mall and walk around for a couple hours, we need to be in active labor by 24 hours so I really wanted to get things going.

We got to the mall and started walking and I began having contractions every 4 mins that last about 45 seconds, they became  painful but not unbearable.  We spent two hours roaming the mall, and drinking lots of lemonade. Around noon we left the mall and stopped over at our birthing center to check in and see how we were progressing.  I was dilated to 4cm. I was so happy to hear that I was progressing and just had 6cm. to go! It was lunch time and since we had lots of time we decided to visit one of our favorite pizza shops for lunch, I wasn’t actually hungry but it seemed like a nice way to pass the time. This was when my water really started leaking, it had been a slow leak all morning but after changing pants twice we decided to head home for a bit so we could relax and and have not worry about leaking all over public floors. I spend the next two hours walking around the house and bouncing on my birth ball, I am not sure how much the birth ball helped but they say its great for labor and it was a nice place to sit. At 3:30 we felt rested and decided to go walk at a plaza near our birthing center. I still felt like we had lots of time but wanted to closer and not worry about 25 mins of traffic, it was a pretty hot day so we ended up going to walk in Whole Foods. It was at this point when I finally started to feel some pretty real contractions, my husband was happy about that. (My first labor was so much harder, so in comparison all my contractions had felt easy) after 15 minutes of leaning on the cart and trying to keep my face relaxed so I wouldn’t scare the busy shoppers around me we decided to head over to the birthing center. I still didn’t feel like the baby was coming but I just wanted to sit down and let my body do the work.

I texted my midwife to let her know we were on our way! We arrived to the center around 4:30pm and they had a tub of warm water all ready for me, I had decided early on in my pregnancy that I wanted a natural water birth. And let me tell you, warm water is heaven on earth. It was so comforting and helped ease the pressure of my contractions. At this point I was about 6cm dilated so we were definitely making progress! Thirty minutes in the warm water and I could definitely feel my contractions getting stronger and moving the baby down, the contractions were lasting about 60 seconds and were about 2 minutes apart. (I think, it could have been a little less. We were not timing them at this point but I had a nice break between each one) Around 5:30 I was (an hour after we arrived) I  started feeling the pressure of the baby coming down and actually started pushing. I am not sure how many pushes it took but this was the hardest and most amazing part of my labor, once little Sofia’s head and shoulders were born the midwife let me reach down and deliver her the rest of the way. It was so beautiful to be the first one to hold my baby! Sofia was born at 5:59pm and received a 9/10 Apgar score.

I want to give a huge thanks to my husband for being there and cheering me through the whole process! Also to my amazing midwife Jualeah Early and all the accommodating staff at Baby+Co, together you all made it possible for me to have the best birth experience possible.

Its been about four weeks since I posted an update, in the space of the third trimester this has been the slowest and fastest month for me. I have been more tired this last month and having a whole extra (cute) little human to carry around is exhausting. I might try and squeeze in one more bump update but at this point I wake up each day hoping I’ll go into labor. I have just 12 days until my due date and we are seriously so excited  and can hardly stand the wait!

THE STATS

How far along? 38 weeks – Baby is about 7lbs – the size of a pumpkin. My first baby was 8lbs 3oz and this girl feels the same, if not bigger.

Stretch Marks? Nope, but I have a few days left.

Fun fact: 12 days to go!!!

Best moment this week? Getting a foot massage from my man. 😉

Anything making me sick still? My stomach has been having a hard time these past few days, I’m not sure if its the NC heat or the baby taking up all the space but either way I have not felt my best these past couple days. I have mostly eating things like chicken soup and toast. (Limiting if not totally skipping coffee/caffeine.)

Symptoms? Upset stomach, mild rib pain.

Cravings – popsicles, and labor. I really really would love to go into labor. 😛

Weight gain? 30 lbs.

It’s almost the weekend! Days are so full but soo very long these days! Just over 5 weeks until baby Bautista will be here and I can hardly wait.  I am still seeing the chiropractor twice a week and am feeling a lot better than even a few weeks ago. Baby is in a better position ( not resting on my pelvis) and I feel like she moves from side to side every so often, whereas before she was mainly always on one side. It is also getting little harder to breathe, this little baby just loves to take up all the space that my lungs like to use. I try and avoid sitting up for too long or staying in the car for more than a few minutes at a time. Sleep is getting more challenging, I sleep but I wake up feeling exhausted. Naps have helped me most with that. :S  We started birthing classes last week at Baby & Co. {link below} its always fun to learn about baby and planning for her birth. I have a baby shower this weekend, PARTY! And I have started collecting all the things I will need for when baby arrives, I purchased a pretty diaper bag and started filling it with tiny newborn diapers and made a list of all the other things I need to pack for birth. I will try and make a post on “What’s in my diaper bag/birth bag”  this coming week and hopefully I will post my 35 week update a bit more promptly next week!

THE STATS

How far along? 34 weeks – Baby is about 5lbs the size of a..well a five pound person!

Stretch Marks? I’ll have to check once I have the baby…Seriously I looked hard yesterday but I think I am still in the clear.

Fun fact: 1. I am actually starting to look forward to labour and delivery. 2. I am still seeing the Chiro 2x a week and it makes all the difference in the world.

Best moment this week? We started classes last week at the birthing center  Baby & Co where we will be having our daughter. I really do love learning all about birth and babies,  I am so excited about having a more neutral environment this time around.

Anything making me sick still? Feeling pretty good these days. Besides BIG 😛

Symptoms? Starting to get some sleepless night, pregnancy boredom and achy legs.

Cravings – I like all things yummy, nothing special this week.

Weight gain? 25 lbs.

Hey there! Happy 33 weeks, I am so late posting this  but I am going to blame pregnancy for being a slacker! It has been a great week, we potty trained Ariana over the weekend so baby #2 can have diapers. Ok, just kidding but seriously I only want one baby at a time.  But Ariana caught on SO fast and after one day she had the hang of using the potty. #proudmommy. This week I have visited the chiropractor two times, after talking to my midwife at last weeks appointment she recommended a family chiropractor. The baby was basically resting on my bones in the front and my hips were popping all the time, so I was more than happy to comply! Seriously every pregnant mom should go and get adjusted, it made a world of difference and I feel like I can make it the last 1.5 months without going crazy! The other new thing is we finally started attending our birthing classes, which I really enjoy learning about baby and all getting ready for having this little princess.

THE STATS

How far along? 33 weeks – Baby is about 4lbs the size of a pineapple!

Stretch Marks? Nope, nada.

Fun fact: Every pregnant mama should see a chiropracter! Why did it take me a 1.75 pregnancies to find out how awesome/helpful they are!

Best moment this week? After getting my hips adjusted I could actually stand up without any pain!

Anything making me sick still? It has been a great week, I am all about naps these days. Seriously lots and lots of naps.

Symptoms? Tiredness. Also if I am sitting upright for too long I start getting a little anxiety and feeling as if I cant breathe. Idk if its just the position of the baby, or if I really cant breathe but I just try and avoid sitting for too long. 😛

Cravings – Oatmeal, apples and Chic-files frozen lemonade frosties.

Weight gain? 24 lbs pounds.

I hope everyone had a very happy Easter! I took these shots Sunday with little Ariana, we had about 3.5 minutes worth of smiles and kisses before she checked out and wanted to play. Thankfully we got some cute shots and were able to enjoy the rest of the day! I am so happy to be at 32 weeks, baby is growing healthy and strong with just 52 days left of this pregnancy I feel like I am in the final stretch. (haha, literally)

THE STATS

How far along? 32 weeks – Baby is about 3.75 lbs.

Stretch Marks? Not yet.

Fun fact – legs cramps are the worst. Why would that even be a pregnancy problem? #pregnancyproblems

Best moment this week? Making it to 32 weeks! 😛

Anything making me sick still? Tiredness, anytime I get over tired I start feeling sick. Also I was super busy over the holiday weekend so that also made me feel pretty old and tired.

Symptoms? Leg cramps, not even kidding I woke up with double leg cramps in both of my calfs. I got out of bed to stand up and try and get them out but { my muscles wouldn’t work } so I just fell over in a heap. Thankfully my husband was right there and while I laid like a helpless human he massaged my calfs until the cramps went away. They kept coming back over and over…worst feeling ever. My muscles stiffened up and were super sore for two days after that, I told my midwife and she recommended a powdered magnesium supplement called Natural Calm, I have been taking it for two days so hopefully I will not have any more cramps after this! Anything to stop the pain of have your leg muscles all jacked up. 😦 It is the worst!

Cravings – Nothing to crazy lately. Just normal food and lots of popsicles.

Weight gain? 23.5 lbs pounds.

This week has been a little rougher on me, I have been extremely tired and sore. The weekend (Saturday) I spent the day shopping and hanging out with friends, not the best idea though. I felt fine but Sunday morning but around ten I started have some braxton hicks and lower back pain/ache so I spent the rest of the day resting on the couch and hydrating. I probably worry too much but I also did not do much on Monday because I don’t want to push my body too hard. I finally feel back to normal today {Tuesday} but since I have just barely nine weeks left I probably can slow down life so this little baby can have her designated 9 months in the belly. 🙂 That’s it for the week, I am reducing my caffeine intake and trying to eat more healthy snacks like popsicles and popcorn so I don’t go to crazy in this last trimester! Wish me luck 😉

THE STATS

How far along? 31 weeks – Baby is about 3.3 lbs and is just over 16 inches long.

Stretch Marks? No, every week I keep thinking about just deleting this quesiont but I have 2 months left so I’m keeping it just in case.

Fun fact – just 60 days left to go till baby D-Day!

Best moment this week? going to bed every night, seriously I am sleep monster lately.

Anything making me sick still? This week has been a little rough on me, baby girl is getting bigger and lots of Braxton hicks and tiredness.

Symptoms? Braxton hicks, Tiredness, sore hips, and a very sore lower back.

Cravings – pickles, lime popsicles and popcorn.

Weight gain? 22 lbs pounds.

Thirty weeks over here! We had fun this weekend traveling to Florida and visiting with Family and friends. We spent a day on the beach and ate lots of yummy food, it was a long 9 hour car ride and definitely the last trip I will make before I have this baby.  Today I had a baby check up and I measured 31 weeks and I passed my diabetes test with flying colors. (Whew) Not that I was worried but there is always a chance. That is all I have to update for this week, its getting harder to put on my shoes and paint my toenails! Thank goodness its summer and I can just switch over the sandals and from now on I will just have to pay for my pedicures. 😛

THE STATS

How far along? 30 weeks – Baby is about 3 lbs and is just over 15 inches long.

Stretch Marks? Nope.

Fun fact – During pregnancy woman grow a whole new organ, ie the placenta.

Best moment this week? Relaxing on the beach with my toes in the sand!

Anything making me sick still? The third trimester has been good to me. No sickness or nausea.

Symptoms? Cravings – Sugar snap peas, snickers and lime popsicles! But not all at once 😛

Weight gain? 21.lbs pounds.
